Dayi Baboug is my maternal Grandfather whom I have never met……… He has left this world long before the birth of any of his grandchildren. A simple man with a golden heart, caring and protective towards his people but violent and unforgiving towards the enemy……. Illiterate as a peasant but exceptionally bright and educated mind with all the skills of leadership and military strategy……… A fair and trusted judge to handle all the disputes of the villagers and at the same time a perfect companion of the children and youngsters. A selfless man who has built an orphanage to save hundreds of Kessabtsi children after the massacres of 1915, but forgot to build a home for himself….. gathered his friends to build a school to illuminate the minds of the next generation. Finally, he chose the last orphan left in the orphanage to establish a family…………………………………………………A unique man who had a great influence on the history of Kessab and life of kessabtsies. That’s why it is impossible to find any Kessabtsi who will not bow down his head with respect to the memory of this Man.
